When you're working with multiple files and you need to transport or send them over the Internet, you can save yourself a lot of headaches by zipping them. It is much easier than selecting and transferring them one by one. There is quite a number of archive types and a lot of software to go with them. One of the best choices is Ultimate Zip. It features a well optimized ZIP/7-ZIP engine, and its multi-core support will make it possible to use your machine's full computing power.

Downloading and installing can be done fast. The package will take up 4.40 Mb of disk space and it features a standard wizard. After setting a destination path and selecting what shortcuts to create, the installation process will begin and it will take a few seconds to complete.

The software makes it very easy to create or extract archives of any type. The user interface works somewhat like an explorer window, meaning that you can access an archive from a navigation pane on the left side of the window and its contents on the larger area on the right. Files or folders can be archived by clicking the New button on the interface. This will bring up a save window first, where you can name the ZIP file. After naming it, a new window will show up where you can select what files to add. A much easier way to pack data is to drag files or folders to the interface. This will immediately bring up a window where you may set a compression level, and make additional settings.

Data can be extracted from an archive more or less the same way. Dragging a ZIP file over the interface will only display its folders structure on the navigation pane and their contents on the right side of the window. An archive will be extracted after clicking the Extract toolbar button and specifying a destination path. Ultimate ZIP also allows you to encrypt a file and protect it with a password as well. Instead of dragging it to the interface, you must click the Encrypt toolbar button and specify its source and output path, type in your password and make a few other settings on the window which will show up. The file will be zipped and you will not be able to unpack it without the password.

For a more straightforward packing process, the program features a wizard, which can be launched from the toolbar. It will let you choose from actions like extracting files, creating an archive or updating an existing one. After this step, you must browse for your files and the zipping process will begin. Other functions can be found in the top menu. These will let you back up or convert an archive, verify hash files, encode files, upload them to a FTP server and more. All of them involve specifying input or output paths and selecting a few options from drop menus, so there is no chance you will get lost in any of the program's features.

Pros

The software features powerful zipping features as well as other ones such as file encrypting, encoding, archive converting and more. The interface makes them very easy to understand, so you won't need much time to get used to Ultimate Zip.

Cons

The software allows you to encrypt only one file at a time. Ultimate Zip offers superior zipping functions, strong encryption algorithms and many more features which make it an ideal tool when it comes to packing and sending files.
